Radiation from early black holes - I: effects on the neutral inter-galactic medium

چکیده
In the pre-reionization Universe, the regions of the inter-galactic medium (IGM) which are far from luminous sources are the last to undergo reionization. Until then, they should be scarcely affected by stellar radiation; instead, the X-ray emission from an early black hole (BH) population can have much larger influence. We investigate the effects of such emission, looking at a number of BH model populations (differing for the cosmological density evolution of BHs, the BH properties, and the spectral energy distribution of the BH emission). We find that BH radiation can easily heat the IGM to 10−10 K, while achieving partial ionization. The most interesting consequence of this heating is that BHs are expected to induce a 21-cm signal (δTb ∼ 20− 30 mK at z < ∼ 12) which should be observable with forthcoming experiments (e.g. LOFAR). We also find that at z < ∼ 10 BH emission strongly increases the critical mass separating star-forming and non-star-forming halos.

Core Formation in Galactic Nuclei Due to Recoiling Black Holes
Anisotropic gravitational radiation from a coalescing black hole binary can impart a recoil velocity of up to several hundred km/s to the remnant black hole. We examine the effects of recoiling massive black holes on their host stellar bulges, both for holes that escape their host and those that return to the galactic center via dynamical friction. We show that removal of a black hole via radia...
متن کاملFormation and early evolution of massive black holes
The astrophysical processes that led to the formation of the first seed black holes and to their growth into the supermassive variety that powers bright quasars at z ∼ 6 are poorly understood. In standard ΛCDM hierarchical cosmologies, the earliest massive holes (MBHs) likely formed at redshift z ∼ > 15 at the centers of low-mass (M ∼ > 5×10 M⊙) dark matter “minihalos”, and produced hard radiat...
متن کاملDouble-double radio galaxies: remnants of merger of supermassive binary black holes
The activity of active galaxy may be triggered by the merge of galaxies and present-day galaxies are probably the product of successive minor mergers. The frequent galactic merges at high redshift imply that active galaxy harbors supermassive unequal-mass binary black holes in its center at least once during its life time. The secondary black hole interacts and becomes coplanar with the accreti...
متن کاملSunyaev-Zel’dovich constraints from black hole-seeded proto-galaxies
Recent studies of galactic nuclei suggest that most galaxies are seeded by super-massive black holes which power the central nucleus. In this picture, the proto-galactic object is likely to have undergone a very active phase during which the surrounding medium was shocked and heated up to very high temperatures. We predict the cosmological effects of this scenario in terms of the thermal and ki...
متن کاملLow-frequency Sources of Gravitational Waves: a Tutorial *
Gravitational wave detectors in space, particularly the LISA project, can study a rich variety of astronomical systems whose gravitational radiation is not detectable from the ground, because it is emitted in the low-frequency gravitational wave band (0.1 mHz to 1 Hz) that is inaccessible to ground-based detectors. Sources include binary systems in our Galaxy and massive black holes in distant ...
